Meatballs are a perfect vehicle for any seasoning, in this case our spin on sofrito using the Sofrico spice blend with onions, garlic, and bell peppers. The addition of cinnamon to the tomato sauce gives it a nice sweetness.
Main Course
4
Lior Lev Sercarz
1 pound ground beef (I used short rib)
1 egg
1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
Sofrico spice
Salt
Black pepper
Olive oil
1 (28 ounce) can peeled diced tomatoes
Vietnamese cinnamon
In a bowl combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg and season with some Sofrico spice, salt and ground pepper. Shape about 15 meatballs and set aside.
Heat some olive oil in a pan and cook the meatballs on all sides for about 5 minutes, until nicely browned.
Remove them from the pan and pour the tomatoes into the pan.
Bring to a simmer and season with salt and Vietnamese cinnamon. Add the meatballs into the tomato sauce and simmer over low heat, turning the meatballs every few minutes for about 25 minutes.
• Add chopped cilantro and parsley to the meat mix
.• Replace the beef with ground lamb and season it with our kibbeh spice.
