When you have the right spices and tins in your pantry a tasty meal is just minutes away. This is a frequent meal for me during the week when I want to make the most of limited time and still enjoy something delicious. Smoked salt, olive oil, and just the right amount of heat bring out all the best qualities in these great little fish.

Sardines & Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 tin good quality canned sardines*
  • Smoked Salt N8
  • Aleppo pepper
  • Olive oil
  • Toast, preferably sourdough, or nice crackers
  • Optionally, pickled peppers

Directions

  1. Drain the sardines, reserving the oil‡.
  2. Plate them in a shallow bowl and sprinkle with smoked salt flakes, Aleppo pepper, and fresh olive oil.
  3. Serve with toast and optionally a few pickles.
