If you haven't tried our amaro yet, you are in for a lovely treat.  It's between a red vermouth and a Barolo Chinato and full of an amazing blend of La Boite spices exclusively made for our distilling partners at Cardinal Spirits.  After dinner, it has a lighter complex flavor.  In a cocktail, it makes the best Manhattans (stay tuned recipe coming soon) and a surprisingly refreshing strawberry amaro spritz with charred strawberries!  Let amaro be your drink for the summer - to start the party as well as close up another delicious dinner full of love and spices.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz La Boite American Amaro
  • 1 oz charred strawberry puree (see recipe below)
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • Seltzer water
  • -
  • Fresh strawberry
  • Thin slices of lemon
  • Mint leaves
  • -
  • 1 pound ripe strawberries
  • ¼ cup sugar, or to taste

Directions

  1. Wash and blot the strawberries dry.
  2. Trip off the tops and split them in half, making 2 wide and flat halves.
  3. Line the strawberry halves onto a foil lined baking try and preheat the broiler with the oven rack closer to the flame.
  4. Broil the tray of strawberries under the broiler until the strawberries are caramelized.
  5. Remove the tray from the broiler and transfer the fruit to a blender, using a silicon spatula to scrape in all of the juices – don’t waste any of the precious flavor.
  6. Add the sugar, blend until smooth, and strain the puree through a fine sieve to remove the seeds.  If the puree is very thick, you can add a little lemon juice to thin it out and strain it easier.
  7. Refrigerate the puree to chill completely.
  8. For each cocktail, fill a tall glass with ice and add the amaro, charred strawberry puree, and lemon juice to combine well.
  9. Top with chilled soda water and garnish with strawberry, lemon slices, and plenty of aromatic mint.
