Iconic Spice Blends for the Modern Israeli Kitchen

Michael Solomonov is a James Beard Award-winning chef and owner of Zahav restaurant in Philadelphia. He began his culinary career at the age of 18 working in a bakery in Israel and since then he has established himself as a champion of Israeli cuisine.

When Michael and Lior met thirteen years ago, their shared appreciation for Israeli food and spices lead them to be great friends. They have worked together on a variety projects, including Spice Dinners and custom spice products. In 2016, Michael published his cookbook Zahav and we are excited to support his most recent release of Zahav Home with his partner Steven Cook (and their restaurant group CookNSolo).

The Zahav Spice Set includes:

  • Baharat - Baharat blends warm, sweet, and savory Eastern Mediterranean spices like allspice, cinnamon, and rose. Enhance everything from baking to grilled keftas.
  • Hawayej - This bold blend of cumin, Alleppey turmeric and black pepper turns water into soup and gives dishes rich, roasted, long-cooked flavor.
  • Mousa - A bright blend inspired by North African chermoula. Mousa blends herbs with lemon for a bold, savory, earthy mix with a citrus lift and a nutty coriander finish.
  • Shabazi - Inspired by zhug, the classic Yemenite condiment, this bright blend combines cilantro leaves, green chili, garlic, and lemon for a fresh hit of heat.
  • Za'atar - The iconic spice blend of the Middle East. Tangy sumac, toasted sesame, and herbaceous za'atar leaves with an addictive nutty finish. [contains sesame]
