Chamin Cholent Stew

Chamin (Cholent)

Chamin (a.k.a. Cholent) is a warmly spiced overnight stew that has survived centuries of history and migration.  I used to have it and make it with friends as a weekend brunch with possibly malawach or jachnoon (rich sabbath pastries) and possibly a nap afterward.  The versions will vary from personal tradition but the one below has been my go-to for years now.  The kishke is optional but very nostalgic for people who grew up with it in their family’s tradition - so give it try.

Chamin is perfect for relaxed days when this pot of warm hugs will be waiting for you to wake up and enjoy it.  Or, set it and forget it in the morning and enjoy Chamin for dinner with leftovers for the week.
